A rising number of children, some as young as 12, are being handed driving bans despite being too young to hold a licence.
Figures released under the Freedom of Information Act show that 725 children were disqualified from driving last year, up by 5 per cent in 12 months.
In recent years, 923 children have been prosecuted more than once for driving offences. This included a child who had been brought before the courts three times by the age of 12 and a 16-year-old driver who was prosecuted 15 times.
